1. Mallorca

While this island that forms part of the Baleares in the Mediterranean sea is very popular for party-hungry tourists, the island is far more than just a party, all-inclusive holiday island. The island spans over 3,500 square km and offers a diverse and varied landscape. Being located in the Mediterranean, the sea is usually nice to navigate and also suitable for not so experienced skippers. All around the island, there are nice ports with great restaurants if you want to treat yourself in the evening. Also, if you want a little break from the waves, the island is excellent for hiking and enjoying views over the island and the sea. Finally, it is a great location for rock climbing, with some climbing spots only accessible via water.

2. Sardinia

A little south from the French island of Corsica, you can find beautiful Sardinia. It is the second largest island in the Mediterranean Sea and convinces with incredible rocky coastlines and hidden bays. Not only can you eat delicious food, but you can also visit many beautiful cities and experience the long history of the island, by visiting prehistoric buildings, Roman temples and more modern Christian architecture. Apart from cultural highlights and rock formations, Sardinia also has perfect white beaches. If you are sailing around Sardinia for the first time, we recommend starting in the north, as it offers a lot to see. Sailing in the Mediterranean is good for beginners, as the waters are generally easy and protected from too much wind.

4. Greece – Cyclades

Located in the southeast of mainland Greece, the Cyclades are group of islands in the Aegean Sea. Famous for islands like Santorini and Mykonos, the archipelago has much more to offer than typical touristy sites. Most of the islands offer a combination of stunning white hillside villages, cultural experiences and breath-taking beaches. You can also eat indulge in typical Greek food and enjoy the wine grown on the islands. The Cyclades are not protected by any mainland and the sea can be relatively windy, and sometimes a bit too exciting for inexperienced sailors, but the islands and the landscape are worth the sometimes wavier days.
